Our history

My name is Scott Kaufmann and I founded Ride & Rise Above.  I grew up with a lot of mental health issues in my immediate family.  Years ago, I lost my brother to suicide and almost lost my mother to suicide multiple times.  Immediately after losing my brother I had an idea I could use that experience to help others.  About 6 years ago, af

My name is Scott Kaufmann and I founded Ride & Rise Above.  I grew up with a lot of mental health issues in my immediate family.  Years ago, I lost my brother to suicide and almost lost my mother to suicide multiple times.  Immediately after losing my brother I had an idea I could use that experience to help others.  About 6 years ago, after making peace with my troubled past and finding forgiveness, I created Ride & Rise Above, with the help of many friends.

Our history

We raise money to help veterans, first responders and others afford treatment for PTSD and depression.  Sparing someone the pain of losing a loved one to suicide is our ultimate goal and getting their loved one help is how we do it.  The money we raise will be donated to 3 local non-profits with a similar mission that offer direct assista

We raise money to help veterans, first responders and others afford treatment for PTSD and depression.  Sparing someone the pain of losing a loved one to suicide is our ultimate goal and getting their loved one help is how we do it.  The money we raise will be donated to 3 local non-profits with a similar mission that offer direct assistance in this goal.  


Over the last 6 years we have raised over $130,000 and that's helped over 30 people get the help they needed.  The list of those we've helped includes: a Navy Corpsman, a Police Officer, 2 Marines, a Navy Seal, an Army Veteran and an Air Force Veteran.

While there are many folks that help make these events happen, there are a few that really give a lot of themselves.

Karyn Lyn's Lonesome Dove Design Studio, dear friend and one of the most talented graphic design artists around, she donates her time each year to breath life in to our advertising.


Momma's Memories by Kelly Burns, one helluva great photographer, her husband Toby and Kelly make an incredible team capturing all the moments of each year's event, inlcuding donating her time to bring virtually all the photos you see on this website


Doc W., all around great guy, Doc and and his lovely wife Kimmy have 2 of the most giving and charitable hearts in Bandera, Doc's done so much for our mission!


Steve, Line' and Harmon, another wonderful family that have donated their time each year to help feed everyone with some seriously tasty BBQ.  


Nick, Charles, Jerad, Katy (Princess), Benjy and Marylee, Kat and Kelly, Rodney and Renee, Johnny, Wild Bill, Hotrod, Convoy, Trog, Boutagrand and so many others continue to support us in a variety of ways.  A full list will be on the back of this year's event shirts.


 We rely completely on the generosity of friends, businesses and the local community in and around Bandera and the Texas Hill Country.  They volunteer their time and money, without whom these fundraising events would not be possible.
